Hay fever season: what your pharmacist can do

Every spring, we see a wave of people struggling with itchy eyes, runny noses, and that general foggy feeling that comes with hay fever. The good news: you almost certainly don't need a GP appointment for this.

Your pharmacist can recommend the right treatment based on your symptoms. That might be a non-drowsy antihistamine like cetirizine or loratadine, a steroid nasal spray like beclometasone, or antihistamine eye drops if your eyes are the main problem. We'll talk through what's worked for you before and suggest what might work better.

A few things worth knowing: nasal sprays work best if you start them before the season peaks. Antihistamines work better taken regularly than on-and-off. And if you're taking other medication, we'll check for interactions — that's something a pharmacy is better placed to do than a Google search.

Walk in any time during opening hours. No appointment, no waiting list. That's what we're here for.
